Our story
Wyman visited Nepal in 2003 and was struck by its old-meets-new cultures.
He continued to explore more Nepali cultures after returning to Hong Kong. He was introduced to drug rehab centres to do volunteer work for Nepali residents. Through the frequent visits, he started to know their stories.
Wyman studies anthropology and researched on drug use issues among Nepalis in Hong Kong. He realized that their situation is related to their marginalized position in the society.
In order to foster positive ethnic relations in Hong Kong, it is important for the society to see our ethnic minority neighbors not as a social group in need but our partners, whose talents are important cultural assets in the society.
Therefore, Operation Empower is to empower Nepali youth to fully develop their potentials and provide a platform for them to collaborate with people of different cultural backgrounds. With their synergy, we believe it will bring positive impact not only to their communities but also the wider society.
