The Prototype
Background
While discussing ways to empower the Nepali youths in Hong Kong, Dr Wyman Tang stated an observation during his research with Nepali communities in Hong Kong that most of the Nepali students struggle a lot in Mathematics during their primary schools and the Chinese and some even in English as well.
Thus, New Vision Education Centre, Operation Empower and Net-Makers/I-Build came together to activate an Educational Startup to tackle the above problem. We name this startup – SDLC, a Self-Directed Learning Companion.
What is SDLC?
SDLC is a computer-assisted online learning program that allows the students to assess themselves the concepts they have not mastered. SDLC will then generate appropriate short video recorded teaching in English and their Ethnic languages. Relevant Practices and drills will be developed to help the students to grasp and to learn those concepts. SDLC is equipped with the following features:
- Self-directed learning
- Self-Assessment that is based on learning concept and not levels
- Customized individual learning plan to catch up
- Instant feedback to increase incentives to learn
